AGU SUBMISSIONS 2021
All abstracts submitted by FECT to the American Geophysical Union were accepted for year 2021. We presented our studies on some of the notable topics concerning environment and climate of present day Sri Lanka.
The American Geophysical Union (AGU) is the premier scientific organization that supports the dissemination of scientific knowledge in Atmospheric and Ocean sciences, Solid-Earth Sciences, Hydrologic Sciences and Space Sciences.
The abstracts were on:
• Towards a Dengue Early Warning System in Sri Lanka
• The Xpress-Pearl Marine Disaster off Sri Lanka in May 2021
• Is an IoT based Operational Air Quality Monitoring System Feasible for Sri Lanka?
• Lessons from Developing and Sustaining Climate Services in Sri Lanka and Maldives for 15 years
Towards a Dengue Early Warning System in Sri Lanka
A.Nijamdeen, K. Wickramasinghe, C. Kulasinghe, Z. Javad, PHD, Kusumawathie, L. Zubair
This study investigates the relationships between climatic variables, vector indices and dengue cases and characterize the relationship between dengue seasonality, spatial variability and epidemics around the Knuckles Mountain Range.
The Xpress-Pearl Marine Disaster off Sri Lanka in May 2021
A.Nijamdeen, K. Wickramasinghe, G. Sathyamohan, L. Zubair
An air pollution tracking model was used to simulate the dispersion of the pollutants from the XPress Pearl disaster that happened in May 2021.
Is an IoT based Operational Air Quality Monitoring System Feasible for Sri Lanka
Z.Iwais, U. Adithya, A. Munas, N. Alahakoon, K. Wickramasinghe, L. Zubair
Implementing a real-time, low-cost air quality measuring network to monitor air pollution in urban and around industrial zones to raise awareness and efforts to improve air quality in Sri Lanka.
Lessons from Developing and Sustaining Climate Services in Sri Lanka and Maldives for 15 years
N.Alahakoon, U. Adithya, A. Munas, L. Zubair
FECT has been working with the hydrological, meteorological and environmental institutions in Sri Lanka and Maldives to develop climatological information, customized monitoring systems and fine-scale prediction systems to assist societal climate risk management.
