Climate Bulletin for Sri Lanka (Week of 13 February – 20 February 2026)
Highlights
Rainfall Prediction: From 10th – 16th Feb 2026, fairly heavy rainfall (55 – 85 mm) is predicted for the Eastern Hills, Western Plains; moderate rainfall (25-50 mm) is predicted for the Southern Plains and Hills, Eastern Plains and Northern Plains. From 17th – 23rd Feb , rainfall is predicted to decrease throughout the country, specially in the Eastern Hills. (Source: NOAA CPC)
Monitored Rainfall: During 4th – 10th February the average rainfall was 21 mm. Highest daily rainfall was in Mullaitivu on 5th Feb, recorded as 26 mm. During this week, there was slightly lower rainfall compared to the previous week across SL. The lowest rainfall was in the Southern Plains with light showers experienced.
Monitored and Predicted Wind: From 2nd – 8th Feb 2026, winds at 1.5 km height were mostly from the northeast at speeds ranging 5-8 m/s. From 11th – 17th Feb 2026, wind speeds are predicted to be in the range of 4-8 m/s coming from the northeast and east.
Monitored Sea and Land Temperature: Seasonable temperature was recorded across SL. The Western plains had the maximum temp of 31.8°C, while the Eastern Hills had the minimum temperature of 23.0°C. The sea surface temperature around Sri Lanka was below average, ranging between -1°C – 0°C.
