Rainfall Prediction: From 04th – 10th Feb 2026, moderate rainfall (15 – 35 mm) is predicted for the Eastern Plains; light to moderate (0-25 mm) is predicted for the Southern Plains, Western Plains and Hills, Eastern Hills and Northern plains. From 11th – 17th Feb , rainfall is predicted to increase throughout the country, specially in the
Eastern Hills and Southern Plains.

Monitored Rainfall: During 27th – 03rd January, the average rainfall was 4 mm. Highest daily rainfall was in Batticaloa on 29th Jan, recorded as 87 mm. During this week, there was slightly higher rainfall compared to the previous week across SL. The lowest rainfall was in the Southern Plains.

Monitored and Predicted Wind: From 27th Jan – 02nd Feb 2026, winds at 1.5 km height were mostly from the northeast at speeds ranging 5-8 m/s. From 06th – 12th Feb 2026, wind speeds are predicted to be in the range of 4-8 m/s coming from the northeast.

Monitored Sea and Land Temperature: Seasonable temperature was recorded across SL. The Southern plains had the maximum temp of 32.7°C, while the Eastern Hills had the minimum temperature of 16.6°C. The sea surface temperature around Sri Lanka was below average, ranging between -1°C – +0.25°C.
